| History of the Friends The Friends of the Library was established in 2001 with the purpose of assisting the library in fundraising and volunteering where needed. We have been successful since the beginning in meeting our goals. We have annually donated about $5000 for special projects such as the summer reading program, educational programs for seniors, purchasing books, and bringing in speakers. As a group we have volunteered at shelving books, delivering books to shut-ins, assisted at retirement parties, helped with story time and re-aligned areas the library. Your membership is important in whatever capacity you wish to contribute. We hope you will consider being a member. |

| 2007 Happenings We had another busy year in 2007. During Kid Day we sponsored Pork in the Park and raised almost $1000 again. We have started a new program this year. We are selling mugs with the Benson Library logo. With the purchase of a mug you are able to have free coffee for the year at the library. Friends members received a discount of $2.00 on a mug purchase. We did another Cookie Walk this year. Unfortunately, we had fewer cookies to sell and more folks wanting to buy! We hope that in the future we will get more cookies or we will have to discontinue this fund raising venture. We had a used book sale in February at the library. We made $300. In the spirit of trying new things this year we selling Chico Bags. These are environmentally friendly grocery bags. They are $5.00 each and are on sale now. In the last few months we have been focusing on a silent auction for the Will Weaver Movie Night. There will be a showing of “Sweet Land” (filmed in Montevideo) and a forum with the author Will Weaver. This event is scheduled for March 27th 5pm. at the DeMarce Theater. With these fundraisers and our membership dues, we are again able to give substantially to the needs of our library. THANK YOU MEMBERS! |
